Biography

New South Wales flag
Geoffrey Robertson AO KC was born in New South Wales, Australia
Geoffrey Ronald Robertson is an acclaimed barrister and Judge and prominent human rights lawyer. He is also well-known as a television broadcaster, author and academic

Geoffrey was born in 1946, the son of Francis Albert Robertson and (Bernice) Joy Beattie. Growing up in New South Wales, he studied law at the University of Sydney and then at Oxford University under a Rhodes Scholarship. He has lived most of his life since then in the United Kingdom. [1]

He was previously married to (private, still living), with whom he has two children. [1]

Geoffrey featured in 'Who Do You Think You Are' in 2008. The episode explored his Scottish ancestors from Skye on his paternal side who came out to New South Wales under Dr John Dunmore Lang. It also explored the story on his mother's side that his great great grandmother was 'a German princess'. That story appears to have possibly been confimed by DNA since the episode aired. [2]
