Martha was born about 1837 to Riley Robertson and Caroline Collins. She was enumerated in the household of Riley Robinson in 1850 as age 13 born in Alabama.[1]
According to the 1860 Census, taken on the 27th of June 1860, Martha Robertson had married James H Bratcher within the year. The 1860 Census for Walton County, Florida enumerated "James H Brcher", age 26 born in North Carolina, and Martha, age 21 born in Alabama.[2] Household 316 of Riley Robinson and Caroline Robinson was enumerated below James and Martha. The family had migrated to Shelby county Alabama by 1870 where the household of 39 year-old James Batcher was enumerated.[3] Others enumerated in the household were:

James died before 1794, and Marthy Bratcher [faded record transcribed as Dorothy], age 61, widow, born Apr 1839, in Alabama as well as son, J. Noah, and daughter, Roxie A. (born 1884), were enumerated in the household of son, P. Joseph Bratcher in Terre Noire, Clark County, Arkansas on the 1900 Census.[5] P. JOSEPH was recorded as age 40, born June 1860, married 13 years, had six children with six still living, and born in Alabama.
