Biography

Lewis, born 20 January 1873 in Logtown, Springfield Township, Summit County, Ohio,[1][2] is the son of Michael Rabenstein and Anna Mishler.[1]

On 22 November 1896 in Summit County, he married his neighbor[3] Viola Esther Mellinger,[4] daughter of Nathaniel Mellinger (1841-1907) and Mary Hoover (1849-1891),[5] with whom he had six children:

  • Unnamed Infant (b. ~1898).[10]
  • Roy Elsworth (b. 26 December 1900;[11][12] m. and divorced [Adams-40524|Violet E. Adams]][13]; d. 9 October 1982).[12] Daughters: Dorothy E. Robenstine and Helen E. (Robenstine) Wright.
  • Van (b. 18 April 1903;[14] d. unknown).
  • Unnamed Infant (b. 28 May 1909; d. 29 May 1909).[20]

The 1900 census shows Viola and Lewis living with their son Scott, just down the street from Lewis's brother Perry and his large family.[10] By 1910, the family has grown in size and moved to a farm in nearby Portage County.[21]

1910[21] 1920[22] 1930[23]

Something happened between 1910 and 1920: Lewis has moved back to Springfield Township, Summit Co., where he is living as a widower, alone with his son Lynn,[22] and Viola has remarried.[5] Lewis has taken up carpentry, working as a contractor.[22]

By 1930, Lewis and Lynn have moved again to Lakemore, Summit Co., where they own a home worth $3,000. Lewis is still a carpenter and Lynn is a cabinet maker for a radio company.[23] The last available information on Lewis is found in the obituaries of his brother Dallas in 1932,[24] and nephew Cleve in 1946.[25] Information is needed on his earthly story ends.

Research Notes

  • Lewis is shown as surviving the death of his nephew Cleve, who died in 1946, probably in Lakemore, Ohio, where he was living in 1942. No death record or grave has been located.
