John Ritchey was interred in California.
John was born on 5 Jun 1840 in Ireland.[1] He was the son of George Ritchey and Sarah Clifford Ritchey.[2]
John entered service at 22 in Company B, 116th Regiment, Ohio Infantry on 14 Aug 1862 for 3 years. Promoted from Corporal to Sergeant Major Company B on 1 Mar 1865; mustered out with regiment 14 Jun 1865.[3][4]
He was a noted Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania physician.[5] He graduated from Miami Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1869 and was a member of the Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania.[6]
The retired physician is asserted to have been among the last living Union Army veterans who actually saw General Lee surrender his sword.[5]
John had been a resident of Pasadena, California for 30 years. He was a member of the John F. Godfrey Post, G.A.R., the I.O.O.F>, Masons and the Knights Templar.[5]
