When Sophia Rinard was born on 15 August 1851, in Redbank Township, Clarion, Pennsylvania, United States, her father, Reuben Rinard, was 24 and her mother, Angeline Stahlman, was 24. She married John M Shick on 24 September 1874, in Ringgold, Ringgold Township, Jefferson, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. She lived in Clarion, Pennsylvania, United States in 1920 and Hawthorn, Clarion, Pennsylvania, United States in 1930. She died on 28 January 1931, in Redbank Township, Clarion, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Clarion, Pennsylvania, United States.

Mrs. Sophia Shick widow of J.M. Shick, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Edmonds, Fairmount City, Jan 29, 1931 aged 79 yrs, 5 mos. and 13 days.

She was a daughter of Reuben and Angeline (Stahlman) Reinard (sic - Rinard), and was born Aug 15, 1851. She was united in marriage to J. M. Shick and to this union were born five sons and seven daughters, namely Jesse and Charles of Hawthorn; Earl of Pierce; A.C. of Pleasant Valley; Ambrose, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Ralph Shaffer, R.D. 4 New Bethlehem; Mrs. Reed Williams, Hawthorn; Mrs. F. Edmonds, Fairmount City; Mrs. Jacob George, Mayport; Mrs. Harvey Shaffer, Kittanning, and Mrs. Thos. Gruver, Hawthorn. Sixty-six grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also survive.

The deceased was a member of the Hawthorn Evangelical Church for more than 40 years. She was a resident of Hawthorn for many years until last fall when she went to live with her children. Funeral Services in her memory were held in the Evangelical Church on Sunday last and were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. E.I. Mankameyer, after which interment, under the direction of H. H. Sloan, was made at the Hawthorn Cemetery.
