James Frederic Rickert has German Roots.

According to the book Vikings to U-boats, James (Emil) grew up without brothers & sisters, his father & step-father drowned at sea when he was 14, he was discharged from the British Navy in St. John's in 1894, he stayed, he later changed his name to James^[1]
