William Renick was part of a Southern Pioneer Family.

William, son of George Renick and Margaret Unknown, was born about 1704 in Eniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland, and died at Paxtang Twp., Lancaster County, PA, before 6 May 1741 the administration bond of his estate was filed.[1]

William married Mary (surname probably Dugan) about 1724 based on the birth of their first child; children (surname RENICK):[1]

On 7 Mar 1728, George RENICK was excommunicated from the Abington Church for breach of covenant and causing divisions within the church (quote): "And likewise ye said Rennick's wife, and his son Wm. Rennick and his wife, also his son-in-law Robert Poke confederates in the same obstinacy with ye said Rennick." The General Synod later ruled that "said appellants shall be absolved from the aforesaid sentence, and so be free to join with what Congregation they please."[2]

On 27 Mar 1738, William obtained a warrant on 500 acres of the land originally patented to his father by James Logan, Secretary to William Penn at Paxtang Twp., Lancaster (now Dauphin) County, PA.[1] In 1739, William was an assessor for Lancaster County.[1]

William's estate was distributed to his wife, Mary and seven children on January 5, 1763.

"WHEREAS, William Renick the father of the above named children Died intested in his life possessed of a tract of land known by the Name of William Renicks place lying in Paxton Township bounded by Land of Thomas Dugan on the east by Patrick Montgomery on the North And by George Fleming on the West etc., including a tract of two Hundred and fifty acres of land called Pollocks tract.
"NOW WHEREAS, The said William Renick died intested the widow of The said deceased administered on the said estate and had the said Tract apprized by honest neighbors to One Hundred and One Pounds to Be divided amongst the orphans as the law directs.
"WHEREUPON it was generally agreed that Henry Renick eldest son of the deceased should have, hold and possess the above tract exclusive of that Two hundred and Fifty Acres known by the name of Pollocks Tract be the said Henry Renick paying to each of the other children Above named their respective shares.

Research Notes

To clear up some misconceptions regarding this William:[1]
a) His father was George according to researchers Lois M. Renick and Rod Renick, NOT Thomas. There was only one Thomas Renick at the time who was George's son; George did not have a brother Thomas. There is no record of two Williams being in Paxtang before 1740.

b) He died before 6 May 1741 when the administration bond was recorded, although settlement of his estate was not until 1763. His disappearance from records after 1741 was because he died; NOT because he went to Virginia. There was no William in the 1744 Frederick County VA feebook.

c) He most certainly married Mary DUGAN, and it is believed that Virkus made up the Renick-Hamilton marriage. It appears that the children of Thomas Renick (d 1751) were mistakenly attributed to that William and Ann.

Renick-247 and Renick-97 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same dates, places, parents, attachment. William was s/o the immigrant George Renick (not Thomas), lived and died in Lancaster Co PA (not Hampshire VA), and married Mary surname probably Dugan (not Hamilton). The children for Renick-97 are almost correct, but the notes about them in the bio are incorrect. There is much confusion between William of PA and the William of VA. Renick-288 and Renick-97 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same name, year of birth, birth place, and wife. However, there is much misinformation about the immigrant William Renick and his sons in their profiles. Please contact me if you are interested in my research on this family.

The father of William who married Ann Hamilton is Thomas Renick, not George Renick
