Hi Terry,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

I suggest you submit a request through G2G for a WikiTree Technical change. Use this link to place your question: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/questions/

Explain your concern about the "This line has not been DNA tested" statement. Then, request what you want; something like a check box to mark a profile as DNA tested that would turn off the "This line has not been DNA tested" statement. It would be used for situations where a DNA test is known to exist, but additional details are not available for publication.

If you post this on G2G, it will give others the opportunity to respond to the idea and it will put your request before the systems operators to implement if they agree, or at least get it on their To-Do list. Hope this helps. Kitty

The privacy of our test participants is extremely important and our first consideration as project administrators. If the test participants are uncomfortable with the process or if they worry about their privacy, test participants will be much more difficult to find, for everyone.

If you can not get permission to post your cousin's DNA as "Anonymous DNA", I suggest that you put a notation in the bio section to identify the Earliest Known Ancestor for that person's line by DNA test. Something like, "Descendant of Lt. Samuel Smith-1852 (1602-1680) m Elizabeth Smyth-346. A DNA tested line."

Hi Terry, Please only enter DNA tests for the person that actually took the test. It is important that only the real test participants are listed.

For your cousin's test, first get his/her permission to post the DNA test information on WikiTree. Next, does your cousin already have a profile? If so, post the DNA information on his profile. If not, add a new profile for the cousin named "Anonymous DNA Surname". As you do this, set the Gender to M or F. Set the privacy level for all living genetic ancestors (parent, grandparents) to the pale yellow level that allows WikiTree to see the Family Tree tab. Connect the cousin to parents and make sure the line continues without break to the Earliest Known Ancestor. Check the Public View and the Family Tree tabs to see what we all can see.
