His obituary in the 9 April 1903 edition of The Joliet Weekly News reads [5]:
John Reebs died Sunday morning at 9 o'clock at the age of 80 years, 11 months, 26 days. He has been sick more or less for the last year which turned into dropsy. He was married in 1850 and came to this country in 1863. After residing in Chicago for six years they moved to our township where the family has resided ever since. Mr. Reebs was a good neighbor and will long be remembered. He leaves a wife with whom we sympathize, but no children. His next of kin is his niece, Mrs. F. A. Woeltje. The remains were buried Tuesday at St. John church cemetery. The pall bearers were: Hy Brueggeman, Amelia Bobzin, Lottie Wilkins, Lydia Hansen, Augusta Baumgartner, Mary Steinhagen, Lillie Pfaff.
