Peter Anthony Grayson Rawlinson was a barrister, Conservative politician and author. He served as Member of Parliament for Epsom (later Epsom and Ewell) from 1955 to 1978, and held the offices of Solicitor General (1962–1964) and Attorney General for England and Wales (1970–1974) and for Northern Ireland (1972–1974). He was knighted when appointed Solicitor-General, as was customary, and was ennobled as Baron Rawlinson of Ewell on his retirement from the House of Commons in 1978. Discrimination against Catholics in the United Kingdom precluded him from further promotion until changes in the law in 1974.
