When James Ratliff was born in 1798 in Virginia, his father, Reuben, was 31 and his mother, Phoebe, was 30. [1] He married Elizabeth Godsey on November 17, 1820, in Scott, Virginia. [2][3] They had five children in 23 years. [4] He died sometime after 1870 in , Kentucky, as there is no record of him in the 1880 U.S. Census.
