Biography

Howard Crosby Rankin Jr. 09-22-1965 to 3-15-2022 It is with great sadness that the family of Howard Crosby Rankin Jr. share with you his passing at the age of 56. Howard was born in Pensacola Florida, to Howard Crosby Rankin Sr. & Gloria Rankin. Howard lived in Mobile, AL most of his life, but he always called Pensacola, Fl home. Howard graduated Murphy High School in 1984, and in 2013 obtained his Associates degree from Virginia College in Health Information. Howard obtained his Culinary of Arts diploma and used that knowledge and opened up H & M Catering. In Howards own words “I believe that my destiny is to say that I made medical history in Mobile Alabama” That came true in the summer of 1969 when he was the first child to have open heart surgery at the then Mobile General Hospital which is now the University of South Alabama. One of Howards favorite passions was studying his family genealogy, Howard spent countless hours in libraries all over the area, and then he turned to the internet to obtain even more. One of the family lines he was able to track back to 1574. Howard is preceded in death by his Parents Howard Crosby Rankin Sr and Gloria Rankin, his maternal grandparents Malcolm Henry Pate and Eleese Pate, His paternal grandparents Arthur S Rankin and Nellie M Rankin, and his brother-in-law Roy Hatchett. Howard is survived by Donna Hatchett (sister) of Maine, Deanna Rankin Wade (sister) Pensacola, Arthur Malcolm Rankin (brother), Nephews Henry Wade, Jesse Wade, Sam Rankin, and John Rankin. And a host of Uncles and Aunts as well has his loving cousins. A memorial service will be held on June 20th, 2022, at 11:00 am at Clopton Cemetery.

Hi, Howard!

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level. Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

Hello Howard,

It has been a couple of weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Connectors Project and as we haven't heard from you, we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member. We understand that interests shift as we grow our shared tree and that some members may have moved on to projects more pertinent to the branches they are currently building. If this is the case for you, please let us know. If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things for the moment and remove you from the project. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction. Thank you so much for your participation; we genuinely appreciate it. Michelle~ Volunteer Coordinator

Hi Howard, I just sent you an EMail about a problem. I am looking forward to solving this situation quickly. If you have any question or comments, please send me a private message.

Oh, ok. If you go to my profile and click the green Ancestors button, you should be able to see that. From my profile page, you can also click on the menu at the top right that says Miller-26228 and click Relationship to me. Once there, click the button that says Search 30 generations. It will show you that we're 16th cousins and exactly who through. That's pretty distant. But you and I are both connected to the main wiki tree so our trees are already connected to each other.

Hi there Howard! I got a request from you to be added to the trusted list of my personal profile. Most of us don't have other people on our personal profile so I'm not sure why you would need that. I did see that you said something about John St. Leger, but there are several and I don't know who that is.

Hi Howard,

On behalf of the US Southern Colonies Project leaders, I am doing a six-month check-in with members to see what aspects of the project interest them most.

1) We would like the number of contributions you have made in the last two months (May and April) to Southern Colonies?

2) We would like to know if you have joined other Southern Colonies Subprojects, such as Southern Pioneers Project. Or have you worked on other subprojects?

3) Your activity in Southern Pioneers Project.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Howard, I will be gradually entering my Jordan relatives.

Hi Howard ! Thanks for the message. We indeed have a lot of ancestors in common, esp, the Scots.

Thank you for the heads-up. 284 in common are a lot, to me anyway

If they clear my Gateway, John Throckmorton, I am direct line descendant of all the Magna Carta barons. I will be glad to work with you on any of our lines. I have a lot of people in the Great Puritan Migration and the aristocracies. My farthest away ancestor is in 0025 B-) It is so far away that it is hard to imagine.

I have written down my common line president's, but haven't counted them yet. I do have a couple of Prime Ministers as well.

As an interesting coincidence, my 2 youngest children's godmother's name is Rankin.

Hi Howard

We sent you a message about a week ago about the England Project but have not yet heard back from you. If we don't hear from you by this time next week we'll assume you no longer wish to be in the project.

Many thanks,

Hi Howard

On behalf of the England Project Leaders we're carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work over the past six months. We have been so impressed with the way everyone has rallied together and gone the extra mile to make this one of the most dedicated, productive and friendly communities on WikiTree. What are you enjoying most about being in the project? What would you like to see improved or changed? Would you like to continue in the project moving forwards?

We're looking forward to hearing back from you,

Susie, Gillian, Wendy and Amy
