Robert Radcliffe, 1st Earl of Sussex(1483-27 Nov 1542) was the son of John Radcliffe, 9th Lord FitzWalter and Margaret. He m.(1) Lady Elizabeth Stafford, daughter of Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Katherine Woodville, after 23 July 1505, (2) Lady Margaret Stanley, daughter of Thomas Stanley, 2nd Earl of Derby and Anne Hastings, between 11 May 1532 and 1 September 1532 and (3) Mary Arundell, daughter of Sir John Arundell and Katharine Grenville, on 14 January 1536/37.
His surname is also spelled Radclyffe or Ratcliffe. He succeeded his father as 10th Lord FitzWalter on 3 November 1505, after his father's attainder was reversed. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1509. He was created 1st Viscount FitzWalter [England] on 18 June 1525. He was created 1st Earl of Sussex [England] on 8 December 1529. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.). He held the office of Chamberlain to the Exchequer between 1532 and 1542 and Great Chamberlain between 1540 and 1542.
