Biography

William Raby was born in Yorkshire, England.

William was born about 1788 in Cawood, Yorkshire. ^[1]

In 1832 he appeared on the poll tax register for the rectory at Cawood, Yorkshire. ^[2]

On 30 Apr 1833 at Spofforth, Yorkshire, he married Lydia Parker. He was 45 and she 38. ^{[3] [4]}

William became the Reverend Incumbent at Weatherby St. James, Yorkshire. He signed his own son's baptism record, as well as all the others on the page. There are various news clippings of him in this role from 1835 to the 1840s.

He may have passed away 10 Dec 1868 "age 86" and buried at Cathays Cemetery (St John section) Plot 1439. ^[5]

5. ↑ Find A Grave: Memorial #216510807. We see him in the 1861 census but not 1871. The age at death (as per the Cathays records) is close; and his son William was buried in Plot 1455 of the same cemetery. However, in the Glamorgan Parish Registers (FS) the address is given as Castle Rd whereas in the 1861 census they lived at Scott Lane, Wetherby.
