Elizabeth (Purdy) Weech is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

Elizabeth Purdy was born in Fishkill, New York to Monmouth Purdy and Hannah Purdy (perhaps Hart) of Dutchess County, NY.

She married George Patrick Weech, son of George Weech, Loyalist, and his unknown wife, 11 July 1795 at Christ Church, Nassau, Bahamas. The couple had children Mary Elizabeth, Ann Nelson, William Francis, Mary Catherine, William James, George, Charlotte Elizabeth, Elizabeth Eleanor, James Alexander, Caroline Amelia, and Augusta Maria Weech. Not all of their children survived their childhoods.

Mrs Weech was a committed Methodist; the Reverend John Corlett wrote a memorial of her in the Wesley Methodist Magazine after her death 6 June 1845.

She was buried at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery, Nassau, Bahamas and the inscription of her gravestone reads:

"Sacred to the Memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Weech who died on the 6th of June 1845 in the ...... and faith. Aged 66 years."
