Clifton Ernest Pugh was born on 17 December 1924[1] at Richmond, Melbourne, to Thomas Owen Pugh and his wife, Violet Ogden, née Cooke.
Clifton enlisted in the Australian Army during World War 2. He was in South Australia in 1943 and his next of kin was his mother. He was discharged in 1947 as a private.[1]
Clifton Pugh married three times: to June Byford, Marlene Harvey and Judith Ley. He had two sons with Marlene, Shane and Dailan.
Pugh was an Australian artist and three-time winner of Australia's Archibald Prize. Clifton Pugh was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1985 for service to Australian Art
Pugh died on 14 October 1990 at Prahran, Melbourne.
