Mary Ann Pugh was born in 1852 in Kingswinford, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of John Pugh and Mary Ann Pearson. [1]
Upon completing her training and being registered as a nurse, Mary migrated to the Colony of Queensland with free passage aboard the Famenoth, departing Plymouth on 5th May 1881. The ship docked in Rockhampton's port on 30th July that year.
Mary made her way inland to the mining and pastoral region of Clermont, where she gained employment at the hospital. There, she married Chinese-born John Sing on 9th July 1883 in Mary's home nearby at Bathampton and according to the rites of the Primitive Methodist Church. [2] They had three children:
Mary married a second time, to John Roberts on 6th January 1908 in Queensland. [3]
Aged about years, she passed away on 6th April 1941 in Clermont. [4]
