Harvey Surname History

The Harvey surname, one of the most ancient surnames, originated with the ancient Gallic personal name "Aeruiu"or "Haerviu", and roughly translates to "battle worthy". The Gauls were an ancient Celtic people who lived in what is now France, and was brought to the British Isles by Breton followers of William the Conqueror in it's Gallicized form Hervé. P. H. Reaney, author of the authoritative book A Dictionary of English Surnames, believes the surname may also be from a Norman personal name, or of the Old German name Herewig, from the Germanic words hari, heri meaning ‘army’ + wig, meaning 'war’.

I'm trying to join the list above, but I don't see a way to add my name. I am descended from Col. Alexander Harvey. He was born January 28, 1746, in Gargunnock, Sterling, Scotland. Alexander was sent by a company of farmers to buy land in the colonies. He decided on Barnet, Vermont. He married Janet Stuart and they had 14 children. His journal is available in the "History of Barnet, Vermont" by Wells. There is also info about Alexander in The "History of Ryegate, Vermont" by Miller and Wells. My line goes; Alexander, Walter, Elisabeth, to Robert Warden Stevens, my great-grandfather. I found a birth record for Alexander in Gargunnock with the parents William Harvie and Margaret Stuart on the website Scotland's People. I haven't been able to go further because there are many people in Scotland with those names! I found another William Harvie and Isabel Forrester who are possible grandparents for Alexander and possible parents for William. All from Gargunnock.

I have a long line of Harvey/Hervey and have hit a snag of too many Thomas Harvey's beginning in 1650's, I am trying to verify my immediate ancestors tracing back to these Harvey's.

I am only certain of Thomas, son of Louis, son of Reuben, son of Abner, son of Martin . . . .

Martin A. Harvey 1792-1869, son of Joseph Harvey 1754-1828, son of John Harvey 1724-1810, son of Colonel Thomas Harvey 1692-1792, son of Colonial Governor Thomas Harvey 1641-1699 and then back to England, son of Sir John Harvey 1630-1679

The more I read, the more I become confused ....Can someone please clarify this mess for me?

When people emigrate, should you add them to the country they came from or the one that they arrived at. I have a few in that category who emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand, some as young children.
