William was born around 1600-1606, a child of John Price and Mary Kemeye.[1] He was baptised on 13 July 1606, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, England.[2][3]
As a child, William came with his parents to Jamestown, aboard the ship Starr.[4] William is believed to have immigrated to the area of Jamestown, Virginia about 1611.[5]
By the time he was an adult, William had settled at the College Land, near Henrico. He was likely there when the Indian Massacre of 1622 took place, and he is counted among the survivors on the List of the Living and Dead.[6][7]
Another more comprehensive census was taken in 1624/25, and William is listed living alone, a free man, at the College Land, Henrico. This census notes that he had arrived on the Starr.[8][9]
William married Susan Tracy[10] and they raised a family in the Henrico area. One of their children was:[10]
William passed away around 1661.[10][11]
The arrival date of the Price family, known to have been via the Starr, must have been 22 May 1611.[12] No later dates are recorded for the Starr. Also, John Price, William's father, was an ancient planter, and had to have arrived before 1613 to achieve this status. (Why was William not also an ancient planter? Possibly because he was not of age by 1616, the last year ancient planters were named.)
"Of Welsh descent" was removed from statement of his baptism (which is supported). The record of his baptism names his father "Mr. John Price".[3] That he arrived in Virginia "with his parents" is not supported, although both a John Price and a William Price are shown in the 1624/5 Jamestown Muster as having arrived aboard the Starr.[13] The wife of John in the muster was Ann, who arrived in 1620 aboard the Francis Bonaventure,[14] although if a previous wife of John's came with him aboard the Star and died before the 1622 massacre, there would not be a record of her (the passenger lists are compiled lists, based on the information collected in the 1624/5 Jamestown muster).

The following source is reported to have errors (such as arrival of the Prices in 1620): John Price the Emigrant, by Price, Rev. Benjamin Luther, 1910, New England Genealogical Society, Boston, Mass. An updated book by V.C. Price[5] is said to be reliable; however, no online copy is available online or for purchase in book stores.[15]
