Emma (Preston) Meares is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

Emma McBride Wier Preston was born 2 May 1822 in Nassau, Bahamas to William Thacker Preston and Mary Ann Fine Preston. She was christened at Christ Church, Nassau, 5 January 1823.

In the summer of 1846, Emma married Richard Turtle Horn Meares, son of William George Meares and Meriam Amelia Roberts Meares, in Key West, Florida. The couple had children William Fletcher, Richard Turtle, George Wesley, Alfred Franklin, Clarence Alday, Robert, and Emma Meares. Richard and Emma moved their family in 1859 - 1860 and helped establish Anona, Florida (much of which is now Largo.)

Emma McBride Wier Preston Meares died in Pinellas County, Florida 18 April 1900 at 78 years of age. She is buried at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Cemetery, St. Petersburg.
