Biography

In 1861, Charles (~40) was living in Moncton with his wife, Martha (30); and their children, Emma (10), Eliza (8), Henry A (6), Rosetta (4), Charles (0), and servant Emma Brown (14). ^[1]

His wife must have died soon after the census, as a son, William Jacob Preston, born in 1872 or 1873, is shown had a different mother, named Flora.

Charles died accidentally in 1877 in Moncton, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada, aged ~41.^{[2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]}

Moncton, Feb. 6 - On Sunday last a man by the name of PRESTON, an old resident of Moncton and an Englishman by birth, was accidentally poisoned by an overdose of laudanum. He leaves a wife and large family.^[8]

The identify of the above-noted person is confirmed by this record dated February 9 1877:^[9]

The Moncton 'Times' reports the sudden death of Charles PRESTON of Irishtown from an overdose of opium.

Charles was mentioned on a memorial in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada with a death date of 4 February 1877.^[10]
