Helen was born in 1928. She was the daughter of D'Arcy Prendergast and Margaret McDonnell.
Helen graduated from the University of Toronto in June of 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Architecture. She raised eight children and started teaching high school art in 1969. After she retired, she sold her house in London, Ontario and bought an historic cottage-style house in St. Mary's, Ontario.
She passed away in November of 2009, and her ashes were interred near her parents' graves in Mount Hope Cemetery in Toronto, Canada.
