Marriage
Benjamin (Lowes) marries Mary Jane (Potts) on the 16 October 1853 at the Parish Church of St. Michael and All Angels', 309 High Street West, in the Town of Sunderland, Bishopwearmouth Parish, Durham County, England[4][5].
Mary Jane appears with the 1841 Census living with her mother, Elizabeth (Phillips); siblings Ann, Thomas, Elizabeth and Martha (Potts) and Ralph and Jane (Henderson). They reside at Pratt's Buildings, in the Village of Bishopwearmouth, near the Port Town of Sunderland, at the mouth of the River Wear, in the County of Durham, in England[6]. With the Census of 1851, it has been revealed that Mary Jane has lost her father, Edward (Potts) and that her mother, Elizabeth has remarried. They live with her mother's second husband, Ale and Port Cellar Man, James (Newrick); James' son, Charles (Newrick) and her siblings Ann, Thomas and Martha (Potts). Their address is 13 Cumberland Street, in the Town of Sunderland, Durham, England[7].
By 1861, Benjamin (Lowes) has married Mary Jane (Potts) and they are visiting Mary Jane's widowed mother, Housekeeper, Elizabeth (Potts); her sisters Martha and Robertina; and their two children Benjamin and Elizabeth (Lowes). Their address is 15 Northumberland Street, in the Town of Sunderland, Bishopwearmouth Parish, Sunderland District, Durham, England[8]. The family have moved by the arrival of the 1871 Census. Benjamin and Mary Jane live with their children Benjamin, Elizabeth, Mary Jane and Sarah Ann (Lowes) at 12 Trafalgar Terrace, Trafalgar Road, in the Village of New Brompton, just east of the Town of Chatham, Borough of Chatham, Medway District, in Kent, England[9].
Most of the children have moved out with the 1881 Census. Only Sarah Ann (Lowes) remains with them, along with their grandchildren George (Swaffield) and Percy Sedman (Lowes). They live at 24 Trafalgar Road, in the Village of New Brompton, just east of the Town of Chatham, Borough of Chatham, Medway District, in Kent, England[10]. With the Census of 1891, Benjamin and Mary Jane have moved once more. They live with their grandson, Percy Sedman (Lowes) at 1 Wellington Road, in the Town of Gillingham, Borough of Chatham, Medway District, Kent, England[11].

With the Census of 1851, her occupation is recorded as a Milliner's Apprentice.
Death
Mary Jane (Potts) passes away on the 24 November 1899 at 3 Unity Cottages, Gardiner Street, in the Town of Gillingham, Borough of Chatham, Medway District, Kent, England. She was 65 years old at the time of her death[12].
Burial
She is interred on the 29 November 1899 at the Grange Road Cemetery, in the Town of Gillingham, Medway District, Kent, England[13][14].
