Chaplain Nehemiah Porter served with Hampshire County, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.
Nehemiah Porter is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A091190.
Nehemiah Porter, the son of Nehemiah and Hannah Porter, was born on 22 March 1720 at Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts.[1] (Although Nehemiah's birth is recorded in the Ashfield Vital Records, it shows no parents, merely his birth date and refers to his as Rev., so the record was clearly made long after his birth.) [2][3][4][5][6]
"Nehemiah Porter, Rev. of Ipswich and Mrs. Rebecca Chipman" were married in Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts, on 14 Feb 1749.[7][8][9][10] They had the following children recorded at Ipswich:[1]
Rebbecca Porter, bpt. 23 Jan 1750
Hannah Porter, bpt. 26 Dec 1751
Nehemiah Porter, bpt. 12 Jan 1753
John Porter (Chipman), bpt. 12 May 1754
Sarah Porter, bpt. 17 Aug 1755
Samuel Porter, bpt. 8 May 1757
Ebenezer Porter, bpt. 22 Oct 1758
Joseph Porter, bpt. 13 Jan 1760
Elisabeth Porter, bpt. 11 Oct 1761
At the Ashfield Town Meeting on 20 June 1777, the Rev. Nehemiah Porter asked for liberty to join the Continental Army. Liberty was denied. Nehemiah joined anyway, as the town had to hire a substitute minister in his absence. Nehemiah served as a Chaplain to the Continental Army.[11]
In 1790, Nehemiah was living in Andover, Essex, Massachusetts, USA. [12] In 1810[13] and 1820,[14] Nehemiah and his family were living in Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts, USA.
On 28 August 1794, Nehemiah married Elizabeth Raymond at Beverly.[15] Elizabeth died on 31 May 1814 (or 27 May) at Ashfield.[16] She is buried at the Hill Cemetery, Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts.[17]
Rev. Nehemiah Porter died of a liver complaint on 29 Feb 1820 at Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts, USA. He was 99 years and 11 months old.[16][18][19][20][21] He is buried at the Hill Cemetery, Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts.[22] You can see a picture of his gravestone at FindAGrave.

Was she the same wife who died in 1814? If so, the 1794 marriage of Elizabeth Raymond could be to a different Nehemiah.
