Samuel Lewis Pope was born on 14 January 1904 in Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia, United States.

His known son was William Louis Pope (11 June 1931 – 19 May 1960).

In 1910, Samuel (6) was living in household of John Pope (40) in Portsmouth Ward 4, Portsmouth (Independent City) with his parents, John (40) and Laura (38); and his siblings, Arthur (10), Ruth (8), and Mary (5). ^[1]

In 1940, Samuel (36) was living in Portsmouth, Virginia with his wife, Myrtle D (27). ^[2]

Samuel registered for the draft for World War II. ^[3]

In 1950, Samuel (46)'s occupation was 'plasterer'. He was living in Deep Creek, Norfolk County with his wife, Myrtle B (37). ^[4]

Samuel died on 27 May 1976 in Portsmouth. He was buried in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, Portsmouth City, Virginia.^{[5] [6]}
