Biography

William James Pope was born around 1837 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England, the son of Mary (Pretty) Pope and John Pope.

At the time of the 1851 Census, William had employment as a page, and was living with his family in Greenwich, Kent, England.^[1]

He married Kate McMullen in 1875 in Victoria, Australia.^[2] Their daughter was:

• Jessie Matilda Pope (1878–1961)^[3]

William died in 1919 in Fitzroy North, Victoria, aged 82 years.^[4]
