Albert Pollard was born in Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.

Albert was born on the 16th December 1869, to Henry Hindes Pollard and Emily Unknown. His Christening ^[1] was on the 3rd April 1870 in Newport, Isle of Wight ^[2]

He married Catherine Susanna Lucy ^[3] on the 2nd September 1894 ^[4]in Headington, Oxfordshire, and they had at least 2 children Margaret (1895-1982) and Henry (1903-1976)

He was educated at Portsmouth Grammar School, Felsted School and Jesus College, Oxford where he achieved a first class honours in Modern History in 1891. He became Assistant Editor of and a contributor to the Dictionary of National Biography in 1893. His main academic post was that of Professor of Constitutional History at University College London which he held from 1903 to 1931. He was a member of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts, and founder of the Historical Association, 1906. He edited History, 1916–1922, and the Bulletin of the Institute of Historical Research, 1923–1939. He published 500 articles in the Dictionary of National Biography, and many other books and papers concerning history. Later in his career, he was a major force in establishing history as an academic subject in Britain. The Evolution of Parliament, one of his most influential textbooks, was published in 1920 ^[5].

He passed away on the 3rd August 1948, at The Old Manor, Salisbury and his will went to probate ^[6] on the 7th December 1948 in Winchester

Albert was an Assistant Editor of Dictionary, Catherine had no occupation listed, Margaret was at school, they had 4 visitors on Census night, Edith Greenidge, John Greenidge, Florence Sainthill, and Gertrude Williams, they also had 2 servants both of them named Mary Payne!

In 1911, his family were living at 7 St Marys Grove, Barnes Common, Surrey, Albert was a Professor of English at University of London, Catherine had no occupation listed, Margaret andHenry were both at school.
