Mr. Pohto died Wednesday at Mentor Way Care Center in Mentor. Born Jan. 10, 1910, in Fairport Harbor, he was a lifelong resident. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Mentor and the Hungarian Culture Club in Fairport Harbor. He managed an American Legion Post 336 baseball team that was state champion in 1931. He also managed and played on many teams in his lifetime. He retired from Diamond Shamrock in 1973 after 34 years as a millwright. Survivors are sons, Larry Jr of Painesville and Thomas of Cleveland; daughters Ruby Nelson and Judy Falin, both of Painesville; brother Robert of Fairport Harbor; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary, died in March. Brothers Vernie, Arne and Eugene; sisters Aili Hill, Hilma Salminen and Helia Hietanen are also deceased. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Potti Funeral Home, 538 Fifth St., Fairport Harbor, and one hour prior to Monday's service at the church. The Rev. Robert Heggestad of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate at services. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
