Hello Cara! Thank you for adding village categories to your ancestors from The Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria! I will be removing the country category from each that have a village category. The reason being is that in categorization, we strive to narrow down to the most specific category. This way those that are left in the general category can be researched (to be narrowed down.) Have you thought about joining the Poland Project? Thanks! Skye (Galicia Project and Poland Project)
Oh that makes since, I had been wondering if I was doing the categorization right, so thank you for the information. It's going to help me a lot while I work on adding bio's and categories to all the Galicia profiles I added during the recent connect-a-thon.
If you think I could be of some help to the Poland Project I'd love to join.
With 3/4 of my paternal side being from Galicia I know that bit of Poland best. The last quarter of my paternal side decided to be different, by being Polish but from Volhynia/Wołyń, current day western Ukraine.
Awesome! I'll just go ahead and add you under the researching team. You are already doing what is needed ... adding and connecting people from that region of Poland. I also have a team for Operation Vistula. So if you have Ukrainian relatives that were moved to former Prussian areas after WWII, there is a category for that. You might be interested in the various stickers we have to display on profiles too. They are just a way to highlight the profile (religion, ethnicity, etc). You can find the stickers on a tab on the Poland Project page (there are also several on the Galicia Resource Page.) If Ukraine ever gets a viable project, the Galicia Project may dissolve. It only remains because it covers territory in Ukraine, otherwise it is a subproject of the Poland Project (which I am on both).
Also, if you have added profiles and cannot find them ... let me know. I can instruct you how to use Wikitree+ to locate and also to "batch categorize" them.
Cara, this is our normal message we add to profiles of those interested in membership. I add it because you might want to bookmark the Volunteer Task page in your browser. It has links to categories which may be beneficial to you. Also, please send me a message (not a reply) if you would like to join our Google Group. Messages are minimal and it is to check in or to alert members of a newsletter, etc. If you do not wish to join the Google Group, that is fine too ... let me know and we can communicate with you other ways. :)
The Poland Project is glad you are interested in becoming a member!
We are honored that you will join us in making the Poland Project a collaborative environment for others to preserve their family history! For the last several months, the Poland Project has been undergoing new organization with new volunteers. We are excited about how the project can enhance Wikitree!
We have several different task teams that need volunteers. Please take a look at this page to see which one interests you: Volunteer Tasks. Once you have decided which task team you would like to work on, please reply to this comment.
The only requirements for ongoing membership in the Poland Project are that you join a team, work with your Team Leader, respond to the periodic check-ins from the Project Leaders/Coordinators and help the Project satisfy its goals. We recognize that people lead busy lives and are grateful for any and all contributions you can make.
Once you have joined a team we will award you with the Poland Project badge. Please join the Poland Project Google Group to receive project updates and participate in project and team discussions.
Thank you for participating in past Thons as a member of the Toddlin' Tortoises. If you decide to participate again in January's upcoming Connect a Thon, the registration this time will be somewhat different. (You can read about it here.) We would love to have you join us again, but whatever team you decide to join will be lucky to have you!
