May Dorothy Brand Pizzey was born on 3rd October 1909 at Childers, Queensland, Australia. She was the daughter of John Pizzey and Ellen Brand.[1]
Not to be outdone by the men, on 5th December 1941 May enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service during the Second World War, serving in the 2/9th Australian General Hospital at New Guinea (1943), Adlaide, South Australia (1944), and Ambon Island, Netherlands East Indies (Indonesia) at the end of the war. She was discharged on 6th March 1946.[2]
