Biography

Notables Project
Sergio Pininfarina is Notable.

Sergio Pinninfarina was the son of Battista Farina who was the founder of Battista Farina who established the beloved design company Carrozzeria Pininfarina in 1930.

In 1961, the Italian president by decree changed the family surname from Farina to Pininfarina to match the company name.

In 1965, Sergio encouraged Enzo Ferrari to adopt a rear-mid engine position behind the driver, but before the rear wheels. That iconic car, the Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale, was produced for sale to the public in 1967.

After his father's death in 1966, Sergio became the chairman and continued on in that role until his death in 2012.

Political

Between 1979 and 1988, Pininfarina was a Liberal Party MEP. He was named Senator for Life of the Italian Republic in 2005, and in 2007 his vote helped to defeat a government motion on foreign policy and led to the resignation of PM Romano Prodi.
