Biography
Violet (Phillips) Fairley was born in the Colony of Queensland (1859-1900)
Violet May Phillips was born 1893 in Mount Morgan, Queensland (Australia). She was the daughter of George Phillips and Elizabeth Mary Dorrell.[1]

Violet (Phillips) Fairley is a Military Veteran. Served in the Australian Imperial Force 1916-1919 14th Australian General Hospital, Australian Army Nursing Service
On 20th April 1916 Violet was commissioned in the Australian Army Nursing Service as a Staff Nurse. [2] She embarked for the Middle East on 21st March 1917 at Sydney aboard HMAT Kanowna A61. [3] Once in Egypt, she was posted to the 14th Australian General Hospital (AGH).
Violet married Australian doctor Major Neil Fairley on 12th February 1919 in the Garrison Church, Abbassia, Cairo. After spending several months in England, the couple returned to Victoria in early 1920 and were demobilised from the AIF. In either late 1920 or early 1921, Neil took up a five-year medical research appointment in India. Violet did not accompany him and they were divorced on 21st November 1924. The couple had one son. Violet never married again.
Aged 71 years, Violet passed away in 1965 in Heidelberg, Victoria.[4]
