Biography

Catharine Peuster was born 2 Jan 1826 in Hohensolms, then part of Rhenish Prussia, to Christian Peuster and his wife Margaretha Christ and was baptized there 8 Jan 1826.[1]

She emigrated to the United States in 1855 with her parents and 3 younger sisters, arriving in New York September 18th on the Rebecca, sailing from Bremen.[2]

Catharine married Frederick Eise 12 Sep 1856 in Crawford County, Ohio.[3] They had 5 sons and 1 daughter[4][5][6]:

Catharine died 19 Sep 1895 at her home on Heidelberg Street, Galion, Ohio[4] and was buried 22 Sep 1895.[7] She was survived by her married sons Frank, Chris, Julius and John; unmarried son Henry; daughter Mrs. Frank Tracht; brothers Theodore and John Peuster; and sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Haus and Mrs. Margaret Hofman.[4]

Research Notes

  • The Peace Lutheran Church record of her death/burial[7] and her obituary[4] both place Catharine's birth 2 February 1826, but the Hohensolms church record of her birth/baptism[1] says 2 January 1826.
  • The Peace Lutheran Church burial record for Catharine's mother Margaretha appears to say her maiden name was Rensch (the handwritting is challenging...).[8] However, Hohensolms church records clearly say her surname was Christ.
  • Catharine's death does not appear to be recorded in the Crawford County, Ohio death records.
  • Catharine does not appear in the Crawford County, Ohio probates index.
