Many sources say that Thomas Pell married Dorothy Ward. They don't give much if any information about her birth or parentage. The Dorothy connected as spouse to this profile was born in 1671, 30 years before her purported husband, which is rare and would make her too old to bear children in the 1720's. One suggestion found in a myheritage tree is that she was instead the daughter of William and Abigail Ward, born in Middletown, Connecticut colony on 25 July 1711.[1] The dates would work, but Middletown is a long way from Eastchester. More research needed.
Thomas Pell signed his will on September 11, 1753, and it was proved Feb. 12, 1754. Thomas mentions wife Dorothy, leaves keepsakes, cash and lands in Eastchester to son Daniel, directs executors to sell most of his lands in Eastchester, Pelham, and Long Island, and certain rights in New Rochelle and Duchess County. Mentions (and provides for??) children Samuel, James, Dorothy, Rachell, Thomas, Roger, John, Sarah wife of Amos Dodge, and Mary wife of John Ward.[2]
