Biography

"John Peeples of Prince William Parish, Beaufort Dist., was b. ante 1755, Va., one of the four brothers who tradition says, came to S.C. In 1775 he enlisted in S.C. as a private. In 1776 he m. at McBride's Ford, S.C., to Catherine McBride, .... In 1781 he served 60 days in the army, and in 1782 served 34 days as 1st. Lieut. in Gen Francis Marion's Brigade." ^[1]

"John changed the spelling of his surname to Peeples to differentiate himself from his father who was a Loyalist." - ^[2]
