Biography

William Jack Pedler was born on 22.6.1920 in Prospect, South Australia, Australia to parents Howard and Alice Pedler (nee Burrows). He was their 3rd child.

World War II

William enlisted in the Army in World War II. He initially enlisted on 26.7.1940 at Prospect, South Australia and served part-time. He was called up for full time service on 16.12.1941. He was a clerk, single and listed his father as his next of kin. He was allocated service number SX30950 and placed with the 13th Australian Field Regiment. He was initially recorded in the Commonwealth Forces and this was changed to the Australian Military Force on 23.1.1943 at Port Moresby, Papua. William served in New Guinea between 1941 and 1943. He stayed with the army after the war and was promoted to corporal and then Sergeant in 1946. He was discharged on 9.5.1947.

Marriage

William married Shirley Miller on 19.1.1946 in South Australia, Australia.

Children

Shirley and William had 3 children - Brian, June and Helen.

Death

William died on 31.5.1980 in South Australia, Australia, aged 59 years. He was buried at The South Australian Garden of Remembrance, Pasadena, South Australia.
