Biography

Ann Peden was born on Friday, August 1, 1783, in Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland, the third child and first daughter of James Peden and Isabel Blackie's six children.
Ann married George Forbes(1783-1854), the son of Alexander Forbes and Christian Allan, on Saturday, December 18, 1802 at Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland. Ann had nine children with George Forbes:
Ann Peden died, aged 75, on Thursday, April 21, 1859 in Aberlady, Haddingtonshire, Scotland.

Ann was enumerated by the Scottish Census on Sunday, June 6, 1841, in the County of Haddington, Registration District of Parish of Aberlady, Enumeration District Number 2. According to her entry on Page 7 of the archive, she was at Luffness Mains on the night of the census.<

1849 - Death of Brother: Tranent, Haddingtonshire, Scotland. [19]
The Parish of Tranent death and burial register entry for Ann's brother, Alexander Pedan records that he died on Sunday, January 28, 1849, aged 67, at and was buried on Monday, January 29, 1849.. The entry also informs us that Alexander lived at Cockenzie; was a fisherman; and died of cholera.

Ann was enumerated by the Scottish Census on Sunday, March 30, 1851, in the County of Haddington, Registration District of Aberlady, Enumeration District Number 3. According to her entry on Page 15, Schedule 66 of the archive, she was at Aberlady on census night.

1854 - Death of Husband: . [21]
George Forbes died around 1854. George must have died between the 1851 Census and 1855, when Statutory Registration in Scotland began, because his wife Anne is recorded as a widow on her 1859 death record, and there is no statutory death register entry for George.
1859 - Ann's Death: Aberlady, Haddingtonshire, Scotland. [21]
Anne Forbes died on Thursday, April 21, 1859, at Aberlady, at the age of seventy-six, according to her Parish of Aberlady in the County of Haddington death register entry.
The entry also states that she was widow of an agricultural labourer; her father was James Pedden (deceased), a weaver; her mother was Isabella Pedden (deceased), formerly Blackie; and she died of an unknown impairment.
The death was reported to registrar James Cowan on Friday, May 20, 1859, in Aberlady by son James Forbes, who was present at the time of death.
Note: Anne was buried in churchyard of Aberlady.
