from a letter by Gertrude Mann dated 19 May 1980, PO Box86, Rocky Mount,VA 24151.....forwarded to JBR in Nov 1977 by Mark E. Dixon, 757 Gulph Road, Wayne, PA 19087....with an enclosed copy of the Franklin Co, VA court document in which the siblings of the deceased Abel Pearson, brother of this Thomas Pearson, request their shares of the land he left that he owned in partnership with his brother Palmer Pearson who was also executor of his estate....very hard to read the copied document..... Quote regarding Thomas Pearson from the Mann letter: "The story was told to me was that Thomas Pearson from Loudoun County to Bedford was so badly injured from having been chopped up with a sword that his mind was affected although he survived. He died in Bedford County. The other Thomas was also severly injured by sword blows but moved to Jefferson County, KY (Louisville) where he was still living when he died in 1826. .....Thomas of Bedford did not leave a will but when his son Abel died here in Franklin County, intestate, and without wife or family, his siblings instituted a Law Suit to divide his half of the tract of land he and his brother, Palmer Pearson, had bought together. This lawsuit gives the names of his siblings. Enclosed is a copy...." a list of children and spouses follows and on the next page Mrs Mann gives specific information on this Thomas Pearson, son of Thomas Pearson of the sword wounds...."Your ancestor was Thomas, wife Elizabeth Hickman also Heckman d/o Joseph Heckman. They lived on Town Creek those living in Virginia, Thomas bought 677 acres. He left no will but gave to his children, Peyton Pearson, Elizabeth Pearson Williams, w/o John Williams; Benjamin E. Pearson lived Giles County; Mary A. Pearson married Morrison Webb Williams, ancestors of Mrs. Shookner; Joseph A. Pearson, Catherine J. Pearson Mason, wife of Lewis Mason; Nancy Pearson Ballard, wife of Aaron Ballard; Thomas B. Pearson and Louise Doris Pearson land and other items. He, Peyton Pearson, married Mary R. Smith in Henry County in 1830 and second Olive Goode. Benjamin Pearson married Matilda Robertson, 1844.

There was another Pearson line from N.C. to Pittsylvania County that settled on Snow Creek early too. John of that line was on Pigg River, Sherwood, Doctor Pearson, Richmond etc were some of their names. One of your great uncles had a son living on the south end of Snow Creek-Martinsville road. He was descended from George, son of Thomas.......

"There was Pearson - Widow Palmer marriage in Loudoun County, and the fact of Thomas, Sr. having had son Palmer suggests a possible connection there. Too few of the Loudoun County records have survived. I have a copy of all of them but do not have the wills and deeds of course. One needs to go to the court house and read. "
