Have posted this also to profile of supposed son, William Pierson (1577-1616).

I am part of the Puritan Great Migration team and have been working to update the profile of Henry Pierson Sr (bef.1615-bef.1680).

If took so many years to straighten out Henry's parentage. I'm concerned there has been a rush to associate him with an ancestry by linking his fairly well shown father, William at Olney, Buckinghamshire, to a father Thomas at Yorkshire?

If there is one, where is the rest of the story? What work has been done to show that the "Guillmus Pearson" baptized at Yorkshire, England, is the same person who married Wyborro Griggs at Olney? Or that "Guillmus Pearson" is the same person as "William Pearson" buried at Lavendon in 1616?

Has any other record been identified by which we can triangulate or further show this association from Henry to William to Thomas? In the alternative, have parents been added to William Pierson only because the name is the same?

Thomas' profile includes the statement, "Had grandchild Henry Pierson who went to America in 1639." Has any record been identified showing that Thomas had a grandchild named Henry?

Thank you for your time, and for supporting WikiTree.--Gene

Edited to add: Is the map correct? It there a distance of 143 miles separating Howden and Olney.

Google makes it 142 miles from Olney to Howden if one takes a modern highway. The tracks, roads in 15th Century England were a different matter of course. It was possible to travel a number of ways, however, what would take William of Howden to Olney? " By the 13th century Olney had grown from a large village to a planned borough, first mention of which is in 1237. The borough is distinctive, delineated by the High Street, with long burgage plots laid out at right angles and enveloped by the parallel back streets of East and West Street. The town possessed a weekly market and annual fair. During the Civil war Olney aligned itself to the Parliamentarian cause; along with Newport Pagnell the town was thought to be of strategic importance and a garrison of soldiers was stationed there. In 1643 there was a skirmish at Olney Bridge, as Royalist forces from Northampton failed in their attempt to drive out the Parliamentarians from the town." Olney

Hi Clare,

Thank you for supporting WikiTree.

I'm not finding the reliable pre-1700 sources and supporting analysis proving that the William Pierson/Pearson buried Olney 28 July 1616 was the son of this Thomas of Yorkshire.

If such sources/analysis is known, please share so that we may collaborate further.

If not, are there objections to severing the parent-child relationship?

Thank you again for supporting WikiTree. --Gene

If there is no supporting source/analysis to indicate/prove that William Pierson buried in Olney was not the son of Thomas, I would prefer that the parent-child relationship not be severed. For example if the parents of William buried in Olney can be identified and shown not to be Thomas of Yorkshire. I would like to be in England to do more intense research myself.
