Biography

Thomas was born in the Wheeling VA area in1788 to Francis and Mary Peake. His father, Francis, was a veteran of the Revolution (PA) and Indian wars on the frontier where PA, OH and north western VA (now WVA) came together. Thomas was moved with his family to Scott Co, KY as a young child following his father's death. He was raised there by his mother and lived there to manhood. He probably met and married his wife, Frances Marshall, there. He moved to Caldwell Co, KY around 1818-1820, about the same time as George Marshall and his family. Thomas was party to several suits throughout his life, and appears in numerous court records. In 1823 his home and belongings in Caldwell Co were seized and sold at Sheriff's sale to satisfy a judgement against him in Fayette Co related to a land sale in Scott Co. The amount realized from the sales was not sufficient to cover the judgment. In 1826 his father-in-law, George Marshall, deeded a 174 acre farm in Caldwell Co to "the Heirs of Thomas W. Peek and his present wife." It appears that was a mechanism to protect the farm from Thomas' creditor/judgement. Thomas and Frances lived on that farm for the remainder of their lives. Thomas passed away in 1860, leaving a will in Caldwell Co. the facts above are supported by court suit records, county tax rolls, probate records, census and church records from Scott, Caldwell, Campbell and Fayette Counties. His last name was spelled Peake, Peak and Peek in various documents throughout his life. It seemed to have been the whim of the scribe or clerk who was recording the tax or court instrument at the time. Source records about his father and mother most often used Peake.

Thomas was born in 1780. He passed away in 1860.

Peek-1305 and Peak-895 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse, who also is duplicated. Peak seems to the prevailing surname for this person.
