Biography

Mary Jane Peacock was born on December 23, 1773 in Colony of North Carolina, daughter of Henry Peacock (1753–1800) and Rosetta Artice (1753– ).

Mary (18) married Revolutionary War soldier Jordan Sanuel Milam (41) (born on February 26, 1750 in Henry, Colony of Virginia; son of Thomas Milam and Mary (Rush) Milam) in 1792 in South Carolina. Their children were:

Mary died in July, 1858 in Pyatt, Marion County, Arkansas, United States, aged 84.[1] [2]

Research Notes

Mary Jane has frequently been said to have married a second time to John Patton, Jr. He either died in 1848 or 1851, and it is difficult to determine whether or not she actually was married to him. The pension/bounty applications of Mary Milam cause much doubt as to her marriage to John Patton. Had she married John Patton before 1885, she would have surely been listed in the pension applications as Mary Patton, not Mary Milam.

On 12 Apr 1855 in Carroll County AR Mary Milam, about 84, applied for a pension stating that she married Jordan Milam on 2 Aug 1792, and he died 31 Dec 1851.

On 11 Jul 1855, in Marion County AR she applied for bounty land, giving her age as 82 and stating that as Mary Peacock she married Jordan Milam on 2 Aug 1791 in Abbeville District SC. She stated that her husband died in Carroll County. One of her applications was supported by her sons, Henry and Edward S. Milam. On March 3, 1858 she once again appeared in Marion County, listed again as Mary Milam.
