Biography

The daughter of Luther A. Paulk (1869-1914) and Margaret M. Perryman (1876-1960), Ida Paulk was born in Cloverdale, Alabama^{[citation needed]} in 1913. Her father died in 1914 and afterward, Ida lived with her mother and her siblings, residing in Cloverdale.^[1] Her mother remarried, marrying John W. Angel, and was widowed a second time in 1928. In 1930, Ida lived with her mother in Florence, Alabama.^[2]

Ida married John Bradford Haygood (1910-1958), the son of Noah Franklin Haygood and Mable Viola Wallace, having one son together, John Bradford Haygood, Jr. (1932-2014). The marriage did not last and in 1940, Ida, her son, and her mother lived in Florence, where Ida worked as a waitress at a Works Progress Administration lunch room.^[3]

Ida married William Thornton Jr, marrying in Montgomery County, Alabama on August 7, 1943,^[4] making their home in Florence.^[5]

Widowed in 1967,^[6] Ida Thornton passed away in Florence, Alabama^[7] at the age of 83 and is buried at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens there.^[8]
