Biography

Charlotte Sarah was born in 1860 at Laxton. She was the daughter of William Pattinson and Susannah Sargisson. Her father Rev. William John Pattinson was rector of Maidwell from 1877 to 1891 and widower living at the rectory with his three daughters and a cook, housemaid and kitchen maid. In 1901 the three unmarried sisters were living together on their own means with two sevants at Northampton Road, Brixworth. In 1911 Emily Jane was single 53 from Laxton and living at Station road, Brixworth with her unmarried sister Charlotte Sarah, both living on private means, with two servants. At a meeting of the Guilsborough Habitation of the Primrose League in 1906, Miss Charlotte Pattinson and the Hon, Mrs Pelham presented a dialogue “In Two Minds”. [The Northampton Mercury, 30 March 1906] The Primrose League was a Conservative organization of mostly women, founded in 1888, which contributed to the of progress women's suffrage. Charlotte was a member from at least 1895. She took part in amateur theatricals in the 1890s and 1900s. "In ‘Imogen’s New Cook’ although she took part at short notice, Miss Charlotte Pattinson acted with remarkable skill as the Duchess, adapting the eccentricities of the part very cleverly.” [The Northampton Mercury, 20 April 1906] She served in the Ladies Committee of the Brixworth Workhouse. She was vice-president of the Brixworth Association of women conservatives in 1935, and president in 1936 . [Northampton Mercury, 26 July 1935 & 21 Feb 1936] Charlotte died 13 April 1943 Brixworth. [Lincolnshire Standard, 5 June 1943] Will of Charlotte Sarah Pattinson of Brixworth, Northamps, spinster, died 13 April 1943 to Harold St John Brown solicitor. [ Lincolnhire Standard, 5 June 1943] A sale was held for the executors at Sunnybank, Brixworth of the household goods. [Northampton Mercury, 25 June 1943]
