Biography
John Patterson was born abt 1730 in Jura, Argyll, Scotland. The mother of this family, Catherine, was a widow in Argyll, Scotland. She moved with her children from Argyll in about 1748 to Cumberland county, North Carolina; later moving to Moore county. John is one of her children along with his siblings Catherine, Duncan and Malcolm. [1]
He married Isabel McDuffie in North Carolina in 1756. They had nine children in 35 years.
John was a founder of both Longstreet Church and Bethesda Church.
John served in the Revolutionary War.[2]
In 1790 John is living in Cumberland county, North Carolina. [3]
