A pioneer goaltender in organized hockey who was goaltender for the 1st Stanley Cup Champion Team - 1893 Montreal Hockey Club and an amateur athletic proponent and leader
Thomas Laird Paton was born in 1855. [1] His parents are Laird Paton and Anne Scott. He was an outstanding amateur athlete in lacrosse and hockey. He served as goaltender for the Montreal Hockey Club who led his team to six straight league championships from 1888 to 1893. In 1893, his team won the the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup and received what is now known as Stanley Cup. The team was the 1st Stanley Cup Champion Team - 1893 Montreal Hockey Club.[2] He was a founding member of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA) and the the chair of the charitable committee of the St Andrew’s Society .
He died in 1909. [3]
