Biography

Drummer Andy Parsons served in the United States Civil War.

Andrew was born in 1848. He was the son of Amos Henry Parsons and Nancy Trotter. Andrew enlisted in Company H of the 103rd OVI on 8 Aug 1862 and served as the regiment's drummer boy. Andrew kept a diary during the war. His original diary is housed at the Lake County History Center, a copy of Andrew's diary is on display at the 103rd OVI Museum in Sheffield Lake, Ohio along with a drum and sticks that were presented to Andrew in 1865 by the regiment. The drum is hand painted and the silver shield commemorates the engagements of the 103rd OVI.

At the close of the war, Andrew settled in Wellington, Ohio and then moved to Elyria, Ohio in 1870. On 11 Nov 1871, Andrew married Eleanor Elwin "Nellie" Beebe. In 1880 his occupation is listed as a painter and in 1900 it is listed as a carriage maker and he is living on 7th street in Elyria, Ohio. Andrew was a post commander of the G.A.R. and on the national staff. Andrew passed away on 27 Nov 1902 of dropsy.
