Biography

Elizabeth was a Friend (Quaker)

Elizabeth was born on 14d 6m 1748 [14 Aug 1748] in Dutchess, New York Colony.[1] She was the daughter of David Palmer and Ann (Field) Palmer.[1]

On 20d 12m 1775 [20 Dec 1775] it was reported to the Oblong monthly meeting that she had married Stephen Stevenson, son of Nathaniel and Susannah.[2]

The family was granted a certificate to the Easton monthly meeting on 17d 3m 1794 [17 Mar 1794].[3] The family included Stephen and Elizabeth, along with their children John, Marmaduke, Stephen, Abigail, Hannah and Cloe.[3]

Children

Children of Stephen and Elizabeth Stephenson:
  • John Stephenson.[3]
  • Marmaduke Stephenson.[3]
  • Stephen Stephenson.[3]
  • Abigail Stephenson.[3]
  • Hannah Stephenson.[3]
  • Cloe Stephenson.[3]

Birth and Siblings

Children of David and Anne Palmer:[1]
  • Elizabeth Palmer b. 14 of 6m, 1748.
  • John Palmer b. 23 of 10m, 1750.
  • Stephen Palmer b. 23 of 12m, 1752.
  • Silvanus Palmer b. 18 of 1m, 1755.
  • Jesse Palmer b. 5 of 1m, 1757.
  • David Palmer b. 9 of 12m, 1759.

Notes

  • Quaker Calendar - There has been much confusion over the dates in Quaker records. Friends used numbered months and days rather than what they considered pagan names for them (i.e. "Thursday" coming from "Thor's Day"). Thus, when the secular calendar was changed in 1752, making January the first month instead of March, Friends began calling January "First Month".
