Arnold Palmer is Notable.

Arnold Palmer was one of the greatest professional golfers of all time. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in its inaugural class in 1974, as well as the PGA of America Hall of Fame.

Arnold Daniel Palmer was born September 10, 1929 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to parents Milfred Palmer and Doris Morrison. Milfred, known as "Deacon," was the superintendant and house professional at a 9-hole golf course where the family lived in staff housing; he purchased that Latrobe (Pennsylvania) CC in 1971.

Arnold served three years in the US Coast Guard.

Arnold's first big win, the US Amateur title in 1954, remained his favorite throughout his life. Sports Illustrated named Arnold sportsman of the year in 1960. In 1963, Palmer became the first professional golfer to break the $100,000 barrier for winnings He was chosen as the 1960's "Athlete of the Decade" in an Associated Press poll. He inspired a broad following, known as Arnie's Army, changing the perception of the sport as an exclusive, elitist pastime. As the sport moved onto television in the 1960s, Palmer was the first TV golf superstar.

Palmer was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2012, only the sixth athlete to be so honored. In addition, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004, from Pres. George W. Bush (youtube video of the award). Palmer has earned a variety of regional awards as well, such as membership in the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame in 2007.

From modest beginnings, Palmer was worth an estimated $675 million at the time of his death. Arnold passed away September 25, 2016 at the age of 87 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was cremated. His ashes were scattered at the Latrobe Country Club in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.[1]
