Biography

When William M. Paisley was born on 3 March 1842, in Guilford, North Carolina, United States, his father, James Paisley (1816-1868), was 26 and his mother, Elizabeth J. (Scott) Paisley (1822-1844), was 20. In the 1850 census, William (age 8) was in Guilford, Guilford, North Carolina, United States.^[1] In the 1860 census, William (age 18) was in South Division, Guilford, North Carolina, United States.^[2] William enlisted as a private in CSA Co. B, 27th North Carolina Infantry. He became a corporal 01 Aug 1862 and a sergeant 21 Sep 1862. William was wounded 15 Jun 1864 Gary's Farm, VA and sent to the hospital in Richmond, VA. "There he suffered and lingered until the 13 July 1864, when he died in the arms of his broken hearted father . . . who carried his remains [home] to Guilford ."^[3][4][5] At the age of 22, he was buried in Alamance Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Greensboro, Guilford, North Carolina, United States.^[6][7]
