Based on 1820Settlers.com profile [1], Thomas Page was born in 1792 or 1795 in Wiltshire, England to Thomas & Maria Page and emigrated to South Africa from Portsmouth with Biggar's party on the Weymouth in 1820. He is listed as a labourer and later (30 Jun 1825) as a Native Trader operating out of GrahamsTown. He died an octogenarian on 13 Sep 1875 in the Eastern Cape. During his long life he married three times:
1st wife Ann was born about 1787 and died in the Bathurst District on 21 June 1824, aged about 37. It is not known where in England or when they married or whether they subsequently had children. In the Biggar party manifest [2], he is listed as 25, and she as 33, putting their birth years around 1795 and 1787 respectively.
2nd wife Jane Hayhurst, married him on 13 Oct 1824 at GrahamsTown and bore him three children: - Richard Thomas Page (1825), Charles Hamman Page (1827) and Thomas Page Jr. (1838)
3rd wife, Mary Ann (Hartley) Palmer, married him on 2 Feb 1847 at Bathurst. She died 2 years before him on 28 May 1873 at Hilton, Cathcart, Eastern Cape.
NOTE
Some children attributed to him based on English census are clearly for the wrong Thomas Page who lived in Gloucestershire post-1820.: James Page, Emily Page, Richard Thomas Page, William Page, Mary Page, Thomas Page and Sarah Page. They have been removed/corrected/attached to the correct Thomas Page.
eggsa 1820 Settler return [4] states him as a 25 year old labourer travelling with a woman Ann, 33, and no children in Alexander Biggar's party. This puts his birth around 1795 and his woman around 1787. Ann may be his wife or a sister.
